Welcome, Mothering.com readers!

We hope you enjoyed our video showing how simple and fun it can be to make tree ornaments from "treasures" you already own.

Here are links and details on what you saw.

  • Suitable objects: Look for small objects such as toys (puzzle pieces, Legos, wooden figures), items from nature (pine cones), or things with sentimental value (an heirloom baby spoon or baby bootie). Or just raid the junk drawer looking for keys, stray buttons or un-namable what-cha-ma-call-its.
  • Other materials needed: thin wire, ribbon or other string to hang ornaments.
  • Remember, the "hunt" is an important part of the ornament-making tradition. Gather the family, put on some holiday music and have fun!
