I love composting. There, I’ve said it!
You probably think I need a life.
But the fact is that composting makes me feel good.
On average, Americans toss between 10 and 20% of the food we buy (depending on who’s doing the surveying).
Not only does throwing food into the garbage contribute to the greenhouse gas problem and waste a lot of money, but it’s like tossing gold or diamonds out the window. Food is just as much of a natural resource. Why let it go to waste?
Personally, knowing that whatever I’m pitching into the compost bin will help feed next year’s veggies and flowers makes me feel great.
Our household consists of my husband and me and we don’t generate much waste since he is a human composter who will scrape and eat every vestige of cottage cheese from the container even if the expiration dates to the Eisenhower administration and willingly consumes most limp celery, mushy tomatoes and other unappetizing flotsam and jetsam that mysteriously finds its way to the deep dark recesses of the vegetable drawer. (Aren’t I lucky? Believe me, I’ve thought of renting him out.)
But even with my husband’s heroic behavior (and cast iron stomach), when you add in egg shells, coffee grounds, tea leaves, watermelon rinds, and banana peels that even he, understandably, refuses to ingest, it’s amazing how food waste adds up.
Composting is a simple way to do good for the Earth (and your wallet) which is why we were so excited when we were invited by the folks at Clean Air Gardening to give away what looks like the world’s coolest composter–although to be perfectly honest, I do not want to give it away! I want to keep it!
Too bad for me. I can’t, but you can win it! Look at this amazing rotating composter valued at $170, from CleanAirGardening.com then make a comment below: Tell us what feature(s) of this composter sets your little wanna-be-composting heart pounding.
Be sure you give us an email (we won’t use it for any other purpose but the contest). Sorry, but due to shipping costs, this offer is for residents of the contiguous U.S. states only.
The giveaway will run from June 1-June 10 and the winner will be chosen at random via Random.org and announced on June 11.
For information on how I compost check out this video we did for Mothering.com on composting Halloween pumpkins.
And if you happen to live in an apartment and don’t have room for the compost bin, why not try to win it and donate it to a local school–or to me! (Only kidding.)
Good luck!
Note: We have not received any form of payment for running this giveaway.

I like how the composter rotates, so I don’t have to dig up and turn the stuff manually.
I’ve been seaching for a composter. What I love about this is that it has ventilation slots that also act as drainage holes for the compost tea to easily drain out into the soil. It looks sturdy and and awesome that it’s made of 100 recycled materials!
I love that while it holds 60 gallons it’s still compact enough not to take up too much space. I’m also glad to see it has an easy assembly design…I think if I bring one more “do it yourself assembly” item with 1000+ pieces I’ll be searching for a divorce lawyer. My poor husband had to head to his dad’s house to help them assemble their composter which ended up looking like some old moonshine still when they were done with it.
I LOVE that it turns! Trying to dig around to mix everything and make sure there is enough air can be so difficult. I also really like how compact it is. Perfect to keep near the house and garden.
This is fantastic!!! The fact that it rotates makes it so much more appealing! In the past the turning of the compost (digging into the bin, etc.) has been the reason I’ve had no success with composting, despite my valiant efforts
I Need this composted! I love the rotating so that you don’t have to dig in the compost pile. The stand is great so you don’t hurt your back. The drainage is awesome so you don’t get a bunch of mud. More so though – I can teach my kids about recycling food waste and using the material to grow our garden!
I love that it turns. I am trying to compost but having things in a heap in the yard is not working so well. My family members are interested and maybe this will get them hooked.
Easy…as a girl who cares about HOW it looks AND what it does…this little composter is sleek, sexy & will complete my garden goals for the year!!!
Love the fact that it spins easy, stands upright, and is completely contained so I don’t have to worry about pests having a nice snack. I am also guessing that the black color heightens the pace at which the compost matures. Very nice!
Composting is the best. I need another and also like the nifty flippy-floppy rotating gizmo on this one!
My husband and I are in our first house and have argued about where to build a compost bin like the one my dad made here in Seattle in the late 70′s. I remember being embarrassed because he invited the neighbors over in the middle of winter to watch him take a pitchfork to a pile, assuming they would be as amazed as he was that inside the pile was steaming hot. Dad’s designs have always been 2×4 concoctions of three different bins for waste in different stages of composting. Unfortunately, neither my husband nor I are very handy. Sure, we can take a saw to some boards, but the result may not be so sturdy. Also, have you ever tried using a pitchfork to tumble a full bin of compost? It was always my least favorite chore as a kid. Lastly, the exceptional design of the rotating composter has the extra benefit of being moveable; need to expand a bed? Just move the container into a different area. Dad’s design doesn’t allow for that. I’d love to begin composting at my first home with this terrific composter.
I love that it rotates and doesn’t take up much space! Love this!
As the mother of 2 kids under age 3, it can be tough to be as green as I’d like to be! I need solutions that fit with my crazy lifestyle. I’d love to grow more organic veggies for my family. This composter looks awesome — I love the easy turn/rotate feature, the drainage holes, and that it assembles easily (so it wouldn’t just sit in the garage for 6 months . . . ). I’d love to start using this today!
