Happy eco-birthday President Obama!

Just wanted to wish the president a happy birthday today. We know he and the family lean in an eco-direction–after all, they’ve got a magnificent organic garden right there on the White House grounds and there’s talk about replacing the solar panels that Jimmy Carter had installed on the roof and that were removed during the Reagan administration (politics instead of common sense at work?).

In light of the fact we think he’s already partly on board, we  hope his family and friends are planning on gifting him with some great green alternatives.

For instance, we know the man is an avid reader and we’re guessing that many of the books that might be offered are not printed on recycled paper with veggie ink. So at the least, offset the purchase of the prez’s books via Eco-Libris where you can plant a tree for every book given.

What do you give to the family man who has everything (as we assume Obama does)? Something we strongly promote–opportunities to enjoy life with his kids. We know there’s a basketball court at the White House, but how about a camping trip? Don’t you just love the image of the Secret Service carrying tents and sleeping bags? But if the president insists on carrying his own backpack, at least it should be eco-friendly like this one made from recycled soda bottles.

If it so happens that you’re not on the guest list for tonight’s dinner with friends, you can still send him wishes with a very eco-friendly e-card.

We could go on and on, but you get the idea. If eco-gift giving is good enough for the rest of us, it’s definitely great for the prez!

What eco-gift would you give the president if you knew he’d receive it?
