Think outside the candy box® this Halloween
Today I thought I’d answer the most common question we get at Green Halloween.
“If I don’t hand out conventional candy, what do I hand out?”
The answer is, “Lots of things!”
We’ll start by giving you “a taste” with a few edible alternatives to conventional candy. There are dozens more. Be sure to go to Green Halloween for a complete list. We think you’ll be surprised at how many choices there are.
By the way, many of these items are available at conventional grocery stores. But if you don’t see what you’re looking for, ask. And if you can’t find them locally, all can be ordered online.
1. If you’re going to choose candy, look for those made with organic ingredients, and natural flavors and colors. We’ve never met a little ghost, fireman or princess who didn’t like gummy bears from Surf Sweets made with no corn syrup or GMOs.
2. If you were to have a Halloween party and invite us, you’d need to be sure to hand out a variety of candy bars from Angell. Certified organic, Fair Trade ingredients, and boy, do they taste great!
3. Fruit roll ups are a perennial favorite. The ones from Stretch Island Fruit are made with nothing other than real fruit. No sugar added!
4. What kid doesn’t like gum. (OK, there probably are some, but we’ve never met one.) We love Glee Gum not only because it’s close to organic as can be, but also, the boxes can be put into the recycling bin. Kids just like the taste. Choose Glee minis for trick or treaters.
5. Larabars are a blend of unsweetened fruits, nuts and spices. Made from whole food, each flavor contains no more than nine ingredients. And with choices like Apple Pie, Banana Bread, Chocolate Chip Brownie, Peanut Butter and Jelly, and more, what kid wouldn’t make this the first treat to open Halloween night?
