Review: Boom Boom Revolution Cards, green edition
If you never thought the game of tag could be transformed into green and compassionate acts, not to mention a form of social networking, think again.
The Boom Boom Revolution (www.boomboomrevolution.com), which gives 10% of its profits to charity, offers a green deck of cards that lets you spread environmentalism infinitely—for under $10!
These chlorine-free, 30% post-consumer recycled FSC paper cards are printed with soy inks, housed in biodegradable shrink wrap, and packaged in an unbleached sack made from U.S. grown cotton. Each of the 26 cards features a tracking code, an environmental fact, an eco tip, and a set of instructions on the flip side explaining how you can share green living with others.
After registering your deck’s code on the company’s website, you can create a profile to share the steps you’ve taken with others on the site and via social networking platforms. Just as a single pebble dropped in the water sends ripples across a pond (yes, I watched Kung Fu in the 70s), when you pass a card along, others register it and complete the green recommendation. The site then shows where your game of environmental “tag” has spread. You can upload photos or even video to share your experiences.
If you know someone who needs a nudge in the environmental direction, these cards will get them started with steps as easy as eliminating their address from junk mail lists, shopping at a thrift store, or spreading the word about an environmental concern. By the time you finish the deck, you’re well on your way to becoming the John Muir of your neighborhood—okay, maybe the Julia Butterfly Hill, but you get the idea.
As stocking stuffers, lunchbox reminders, or party favors, the cards are ideal. They’re great to place inside greeting cards, or perhaps use them along with gift tags.
To get started, I’m asking you to switch to reusable containers for all your portable beverages, as that was my first card. When you’ve completed that step, go to the website and register the code L8 NV6 T9 so we can see how that green act spreads. Then peruse the various card decks in the webstore and join what the company calls the “uprising of guerilla goodness.”
Tag – you’re it!
Have you played any games that encourage you to “go green?”
