Go Green Get Fit Challenge-Week 4
I’m one of 30 bloggers participating in the 12-week Go Green, Get Fit Challenge as part of the EcoMom Alliance Sustain YourSelf™ Program presented by PlanetShoes.com. Every Saturday I post about progress toward my goals and other aspects of the challenge.
Re: The “Go Green” part of the Go Green Get Fit Challenge: A new study suggests we have a social responsibility to lose weight and be healthy.
This came to me via Jonathan Bailor, author of the book that I’m using as one of the guides on my journey to a healthier life, The Smarter Science of Slim.
“The research suggests that a population growing in fatness puts as big a pressure on world resources as a population growing in numbers. Specifically, data suggest that the global effect of overweight and obesity is like adding half a billion to the 7 billion humans on the planet.”
I had thought in the past about the problems of obesity around personal and even societal health, the toll on humanity in terms of pain, illness, medical needs and even impact on businesses.
But this study makes real the idea of “Healthy-people, healthy planet,” that we so often speak about—ever expanding waistlines encroach on the planet’s well-being in the same way as an ever-expanding population.
One more reason to add to the long list I keep for reaching and maintaining a healthier weight.
