It’s a dog party!

Although the book, The Lorax, was a definite childhood favorite, P.D. Eastman’s Go, Dog Go! really took the cake.

Oh, the drama! (One little dog going up, two little dogs going down…)

The mystery! (Do you like my hat?)

The thrills! (To the tree! To the tree!)

(If you have absolutely no clue what I’m talking about, you’re missing out. But it’s okay. I’m just about to make my point.)

Go, Dog Go! made such an incredible impact on my life because it taught me one very valuable lesson: dogs like to party.

If you are a dog lover like me (Lynn will want to be clear that you know this is Corey writing, not her - she’s a dog liker, not a dog lover), you might have contemplated giving your dog a party. Or maybe you’ve actually thrown one. After all, dogs have birth-days, too (along with a whole myriad of other milestones and accomplishments that might be celebration worthy. Bark Mitzvah, anyone?)

Or maybe you’ve just given your dog a gift or two because it was the holidays, or because he just came home from getting snipped, or because it’s Thursday and he’s just so darned cute, even when he just noshed on your Mohops (at least he has great taste).

Whatever your reason, the great thing is that your dog will appreciate all celebratory gestures - big, or small.

But the reality is (in all seriousness) that dog parties, like people parties, can create great waste and may include components that are not good for your pooch or the planet… unless you decide to celebrate green.

So here are a few drool-worthy ideas to get your dog’s green party started:

  • Invites. No-cost, no-waste, Fido-themed E-vites.
  • Grub. Try sweet potato jerky chews from Bark for Peace. They’re for pets AND their people. And for the cake? The pack will go nuts for Ma Snax’s double-carob peanut cake mix (you bake).
  • Games. Dogtime.com has a list of pup-approved activities.
  • Decor. Use old paper bags, cardboard or other thick (recycled) paper to make a banner for the Top Dog. Use a paw-print stamper or your own pooch’s paw to decorate. Use picture frames you already have and place images of your pooch in them (if they’re not already there). Place all around the room.
  • What to wear. Dress your dog in sustainably savvy duds like this organic kimono. Perfect for your tea cup poodle’s tea party.
  • Doggie bags. Pampered pooches will go home pleased with Honeybee Ruff Ruff Nose Balm from Green Wrapz. Comes in a three pack for $7.50.
  • Clean up. Flushable, biodegradable poop bags.

Up for a laugh? Here’s what it might be like if your dog threw you a party.

This is so cute. As a dog lover, I agree that dogs love parties. And now I know where to go to plan one, thanks you, Corey!
