DIY ornament round up
We’ve got a week until Christmas and it’s the weekend. Perfect day for making ornaments to use on the tree, give as gifts, or as place cards for your Christmas dinner. Here are a few I found that are easy to make from what you most likely have on hand,so you can turn them out in plenty of time (and at no cost).
1. This pretty paper flower is made from a book page, but of course, you could use any paper you have on hand. Or print out the words to a poem or quotes from a favorite books of the person you’re gifting. Instructions are from Under The Table and Dreaming.
2. And speaking of paper, these paper balls are among my favorites for making. Here’s how I make one for Mother’s Day. The one pictured comes from Homemade Gifts Made Easy.
3. I think these newspaper wrapped, glittered ornaments are absolutely beautiful and so clever. Every part but the glitter could be recycled. What a great idea if you pick up some uglies at the thrift store. I found them on Pinterest, but unfortunately the link to where they originated is broken so I can’t give proper credit.
4. Oh my gosh, I have to make one of these when our new grandgirl arrives. How perfect! Thanks to Homemade Grits for the idea!
5. Another fun idea from dough. Any time I can personalize an item, I think it’s great. These “family portraits” will be so much fun to make. I may turn this into a Christmas eve-Christmas day activity. Make and bake in the evening, paint on the day! Made by KT Brown and published at Press-Citizen.com.
6. Unlike Mandi on Christmas Your Way, who wrote the post where I found these Scrabble ornaments, I do not suggest you purchase a set just to make them. But if you have an old game you’re not using, or can pick one up at a garage sale, craft away! While you’re at it, always consider game pieces a treasure trove when it comes to crafting in general and ornament-making specifically. Never throw them away. Many of them can be turned into gifts and decor items like these ornaments.
7. Betz White has become one of my favorite designers. Her eco-friendly fabric designs are divine and her blog is a constant source of ideas and inspiration. She took an ornament commonly made in paper and crafted it in felt. Brilliant and perfect for my tree. I’m off to make one right now!
