Crazy for this eco-friendly tape
Corey may be a lip balmacholic, but I’m a crafting maniac. I collect everything because…someday I may use it in my art. And, I’m always looking for eco-friendly materials that help me as I use my stash. So I was delighted to come across washi tape.
Made of Japanese rice paper and an acrylic glue, it is odorless, acid-free, can be repositioned, yet sticks nicely. And it comes in the most wonderful colors and patterns!
I was sent several roles by Patty from www.TheTintedMint.com. To be honest, I’m a bright color girl myself, but beggars can’t be choosers and as it turned out, those Patti sent me to try were muted greens and a gray. But being as we’re in the holiday season, I figured I’d experiment with them.
I unearthed a couple of clear DVDs, the kind that are on the top of a stack when you buy a bunch. On one, I striped the tape across, then laid the second clear DVD on top, cut out the “j” and the “y” from cardstock and glued them on along with a brown plastic circle topped with a small flower. Using my trusty Dremel, I drilled a hole through both DVDs, threaded a wire through, fashioned a circle to hang the ornament from, then tied a bow.
It’s hard to tell from the photo, but I accidentally created a 3-D effect which is really fun. (If I were a real artist, I’d tell you I did that on purpose!)
What do you think?
I know I’ll be using washi tape for all sorts of crafts and decor from now on-cards, labels, books, to fasten the envelopes I make from magazine pages. Of course, the uses are endless.
I don’t wrap gifts in paper any more, but if you do, this is an elegant solution.
If you’ve used washi tape, let me know your experience with it.
