Make it in ten minutes-a family-sized flatware caddy

Wanting to save money and the planet? Then why not carry your flatware with you instead of using plastic when you’re picnicking? If you’re got a sewing machine, you can make this caddy in no time flat from a towel you already have on hand. It’s large enough to take most families’ knives, forks and spoons and if you have extra flatware, load it up and keep it handy so you’re always ready to party! These caddies also make great gifts for your summer party guests.

1. Choose a kitchen or hand towel. Depending of the size of your towel, fold up from the bottom leaving enough at the top to fold over the flatware. Sew three or four (your preference) vertical seams on the folded portion. Distance apart is up to you. Doesn’t really matter, but if you have a big family, you may want only three sections. Using an average size towel, you should be able to fit as many as a dozen of each utensil in each pocket.

2. Turn towel towel over and sew on a length of ribbon (or in our case several types of ribbon) long enough to wrap around and tie in a bow when the caddy is rolled up. Sew ribbon on by machine, then cover thread with a button.

3. Roll, tie and you’re done.
