Craft: Girly girl iPad case
When we moved into our house seven years ago, I wanted to go in a completely different direction from the blue and yellow country decor I’d chosen for our prior home. I was looking for a more modern and whimsical vibe.
I found it, among other places, in fabrics I used for pillows and to cover two ottomans we’d had for years.
The fabrics are a mix of colors on black backgrounds—flowers, geometric shapes and stripes.
I enjoy the way they cheer up the room (along with an equally colorful array of painted wood toys atop our coffee table).
One of the great things about making items yourself is that if you’re like me, you tend to buy more fabrics you love than you can possibly use up in one project (if ever).
So the other day, I was doing my once-every-four-or-five-years cleaning out of our guest closet which guests share with my sewing machine and fabric stash. Among the dozens of remnants I found a good sized piece of the fabric with which I’d made the pillow cover pictured. I adore this fabric. It makes me happy just to look at it.
I decided to use the remnant to make a case for my iPad (which also makes me happy just to look at it).
I didn’t have a pattern and didn’t want to purchase anything to make the case (also known as a sleeve).
Granted there are some very cute iPad sleeves/cases out there like this one from Bertie’s Closet.
Or this from Janine King Designs.
But I wanted my case to feel happy, whimsical, maybe make people smile when they saw it, just like that fabric does for me.
So I made the bag, then I made a separate case for the keyboard I inherited from a friend.
What do you think? Does my bag and case make you smile?
