Suffering from lamp envy

by Lynn

I admit it. Not only am I a bagholic, but over the last year, I have developed a serious case of lamp envy. Can you blame me when creative types come up with these inspiring lamps that I’d love to light up my life!

1. From Inno Designs come this organic fixture made from bamboo reeds.

2. I love multi-function items and this renewable cork lamp with a recycled shade from (naturally) Shades of Light, is one. Light up the room and add favorite photos or notes to your beloved.

3. An old microphone becomes a pendant light. How clever is that! By Resurface.

4. This coffee filter lamp is beautiful. It’s colored with vegetable and spices from Lampada.

5. Traffic lights might be very annoying when you’re in a hurry and you can’t get through them, but on your ceiling, they can make a great statement. This light is from Greenlight Concepts.

6. The humble egg carton turns into “fairy lights” in the hands of Esprit Cabane.

7. If your taste runs toward the rococo and/or the absurd, this lamp, handcrafted by artist Ryan McElhinney, with dozens of toys painted gold, might fit perfectly in your living room. It won’t in mine, but I can’t help admiring it.

8. Not that I buy soda in six-pack rings, but if I did, I’d never toss a ring again after seeing this lamp by Relevé Design.

Finally, this one deserves a photo to itself. I’m simply mad for it and if you’ve seen our living room, you’d know that it would fit perfectly except, perhaps, for the size. It’s an assemblage of found objects by artist Stuart Haygarth.

I hope these lamps have inspired you. Did you know that lamps are easy to make from almost any object. All it takes is a lamp kit (there are different types, but this one from Ikea is inexpensive and can work for a variety of projects), and a few basic tools. Would love to see the lamps you’ve made.
