Botanic garden gifts

by Lynn

Recently when I was in Colorado visiting our new grandgirl, my daughter-in-law and I went to the Denver Botanic Gardens for a walk.

While Sam was signing up for a membership (a great present for any occasion by the way), I wandered through the gift shop area and was delighted to see quite a few “green” items available.

It occurred to me that when shopping locally, many people overlook museums, gardens, zoos and art galleries, where these kinds of items often can be found.

So take a tip from me and step away from department stores into institutions that are fun to visit any time of the year. And know that when you buy from them, you are supporting their continued growth.

Oh, an in addition to a membership and gift items, many of these places offer classes that would make great gifts too.

Here are just a few of the items I came across at the Denver Botanic Gardens, any one of which would be most welcome by the greenies you know.

1. Assortment of “bee” centric gifts, local honey “bee-ing” the best I think.

2. Herbs beautifully packed in glass jars with ribbon that can be reused of course.

3. And speaking of bees, I spotted Plan Toys‘ adorable bee hives that are safe for kids and environmentally-friendly.

4. One more bee favorite is this house for non-stinging mason bees.

5. Several types of recycled paper ornaments were available.

6. Bulbs always make a great gift, even for the non-gardener because they’re generally so easy to grow.

7. Bright colored handmade (locally) felt purses.

Have you found a great, green gift at a local attraction? Tell us about it.
