Green gifts for children may be a thing of the past (without your help)
Have you heard about the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA)? It was created by congress in August of ’08, with the intention of ensuring that toys and children’s products such as clothes and books (anything under the age of 12), would be safe from dangers such as lead and phthalates.
Unfortunately, the requirements of the act - as they are written - would put most small and medium sized natural toy and clothing companies (as well as children’s resale stores) out of business becauase the required testing would be so costly that only large manufacturers could afford it.
Can you imagine no more boutiques like A Toy Garden or LaLa Natural , no more children’s resale stores, buying or selling used through Craigslist or garage sales, and no more buying handmade items from E-Bay or Etsy? Even used book stores and libraries may face problems.
Due to the outpouring of concern, the CPSC is considering some exemptions, so it is urgent that your congress person and/or senator hear from you.

If changes are not made to the CPSIA, the family who makes this handmade doll and A Toy Garden, the online children’s boutique that sells it, may be forced out of business!
