Craft a unique Valentine’s “card”
Last year I wrote about making Valentine’s cards, not just from paper, but from “anything and everything,” how to make a “sweet” Valentine’s box, and how to make seeded Valentines.
This year’s twist for the uncommon Valentine uses an empty ribbon spool for its base. Hang it on the door knob of your beloved’s room so he/she will encounter it first thing in the morning and start the day with a smile.
Supplies
- Empty ribbon spool
- Variety of papers or sticker sheets (need glue if you’re using paper)
- Heart embellishment or button
- 1″ wide ribbon (approximately 1 yard)
- 8″ of thin ribbon or string
- Cardstock “blank” with hole punched
How-to
1. Cut paper or decorated sticker in “slices” and fit one under the plastic rim. Overlap subsequent slices around one side of the spool until covered.
2. Turn spool over and repeat.
3. Glue heart embellishment or button over plastic piece in the middle on one side only.
4. Cut 24″ of ribbon and wind around spool with ends same length.
5. Cut another 12″ of ribbon and tightly tie a bow about 2″ from the top of where the two ribbons meet.
6. Cover the cardboard blank with papers/stickers to match the decorated spool, then write in your greeting.
7. Tie the decorated blank to the dotted ribbon using the thin ribbon.
8. Hang your unique Valentine on a door knob, from a hook or nail.
