How to make a guitar strap cozy

When we posted our unique guitar strap cozy made from a couple of ties on our blog, we were asked for directions, so here they are.

What you'll need:

Guitar strap

2 ties (make each tie is wide enough, when stitching is removed, to cover width of guitar strap).

Scissors, pins, sewing machine

Instructions:

1. Use a seam ripper to open ties. Remove tie form (assuming there is one) and iron ties flat.

2. Pin ties together, right sides together.

3. Center guitar strap on top of ties. Decide how much of the strap you want to cover lengthwise. (This may be dictated by width of strap. In our case, the strap got very narrow at a certain point and since I wanted the cozy to be removable, I didn't fit it to the narrow part.)

Cut the length plus 1", then with guitar strap centered on ties again, mark 1" out on each side and cut  all the way up strip. You should end with a strip the width of the guitar plus 1" and the length of the guitar plus 1"

4. Sew down one long side, unpin, iron seam.

5. Fold down the short sides of the strip 1/2" and sew. Iron.

6. Turn strip to the right side and "fit it" to the strap. You should have approximately 1/2" to work with on the unsewn side. If your strap is thick, you may have less. Whatever the amount you discover is the amount you will sew in from the remaining edge. So turn the strip so that wrong sides are together and sew up remaining side. (You might want to leave a bit of extra room so that the cozy slides more easily.)

7. Turn cozy right side out.

8. Slide onto guitar strap. Attach to guitar.

9. Send us a photo.
