Yes, we're now officially "professors," (though sadly, not tenured), for KIWI magazine's live online college. On August 4 at 2 p.m. EST, we'll be sharing our out-of-the-box ideas and tips to help you plan the best celebrations ever at little cost to Mother Earth and your wallet.
And five lucky attendees will win an autographed copy of our book, Celebrate Green! There's no cost to sign up or attend so register today! Can't wait to see you there.
And speaking of events and saving moneyJoin our blogfest for National Costume Swap Day
You may remember that last year we launched National Costume Swap Day and received an amazing response including a segment on Good Morning America.
This year, we've got way more time to spread the word about this fun, no cost route to getting your kids new-to-them-costumes (and of course, keep those costumes out of landfills).
We'd love your help in many ways, but here's one just for bloggers. If you write a blog, please join us for a National Costume Swap Day blogfest on September 12.
The idea is to let people know how easy it is to set up and register a swap. Whether in your home, a community center, school, church or, if you're lucky enough to live in a year round warm climate, a park, hosting and running a costume swap is a great way to bring people together and kick off the Green Halloween season!
You can write a post based on what's on the NCSD website, or we can send you one pre-written to adapt as you wish.
You'll get some social media lovin' as well as a great feeling from participating. Sign up or ask questions by emailing us.
More ways to get involved with National Costume Swap Day
If you're not a blogger, we've still got a plethora (as Corey likes to say) of ways for you to join the fun around National Costume Swap Day (which is October 8, by the way).
1. With our NCSD partners, KIWI magazine and Swap.com, we're hosting a Twitter Party on September 27. Never been to a Twitter Party? It's fun! You'll be following the hashtag #CostumeSwap. Have no idea what we're talking about?
Here's how to join it.
We'll be giving away some awesome prizes any greenie will love. So put us on your calendar, September 27 at 6 p.m. PST. More info to follow.
2. Join the conversation. Share your experience with setting up or attending a swap or let us see what kinds of costumes you're going to swap and what your kids are dreaming of, on our Facebook page or Twitter. We'll post some fun polls and you of course are welcome to ask questions too.
3. Host a swap and register it on the National Costume Swap Day site. Check out our easy steps for setting one up as well as tips to grab the attention of the press (if you want that).
Where have we been the last few months? We realize you haven't spent much time this summer pondering the question, "Why the heck haven't we had any news from Lynn and Corey this summer, but we've missed you anyway and wanted to let you know...
Lynn spent six weeks attempting to travel green (we know that's an oxymoron), to North Carolina and back, with her husband. She wrote about their adventures in her blog, Travelin' Green.
If you're ready for some laughs, read about their crazy night in a Kansas Park when they almost encountered an anaconda and their also-almost meetings with bears and other creatures.
Corey and her family moved into Lynn's house because they'd sold their own and found a new one, but it needs some renovation which Corey is in the middle of and writing about on the Celebrate Green! blog.
If you haven't read her entries, you may not know how she's coping with finding a bunch of dead bees in the walls or discovering that the dropped ceiling was dropped for a reason. It's pretty hilarious stuff (if you're not Corey), and interesting to watch the progress as she attempts to make the changes as sustainbly as possible.
