Simple new year's resolutions for Celebrate Green! fans

The big holidays are over (some people are breathing a sigh of relief). But we all know that there are plenty more celebrations ahead. That's why we are urging you to consider committing to the three resolutions below for this year, no matter what the holiday or celebration. Together we can make a difference with these simple steps.

1. Use fabric instead of paper to wrap gifts.

2. Buy gifts that are grown or made locally.

3. Buy 25% less than you normally would, whether food, gifts or decor.

Starting to think about greening up Valentine's Day?

Be sure to take a look in our book, Celebrate Green!, to get some ideas. Also check out the Celebrate Green website Valentine's Day page and watch for even more tips on our blog.

Fresh Celebrate Green News January 6, 2009

That's a wrap!
We ended 2008 with three days at the Eco Gift Festival in Santa Monica, CA, where we chatted up thousands of people who paused at our booth to see what we had to offer and watch us demonstrate how to wrap gifts using fabric. Our gorgeous wraps were from www.Bobowrap.com, our favorite spot for couture wrappings. Everyone was fascinated by how simple it is to do wrap sensational looking gifts so easily and envelop gifts in something that never needs to be added to the landfill. (See "Resolution number 1" in sidebar.)

Meeting and greeting was a lot of fun, especially meeting in person, three women we'd known only via the Internet. It was great to connect in person and we look forward to doing a lot more of that this year. If you live in LA, New York or Chicago, let us know. We just might be coming your way in 2009.

And did we luck out with our boothmate, a man we quickly grew to admire, enjoy, laugh with and appreciate, Jim Figueroa. His delightful book, Clarence the Clown, is for sale in southern California Whole Foods Markets and soon, we're sure, everywhere else.

Also at the end of the year, a TV segment aired nationally with some of our ideas for a Green Christmas through the great work of Deborah Feldman at KING 5 News in Seattle and Kerri Winick of News Pro Net. In addition, we shot more video for CW11's Project Green in Seattle, did a bunch of interviews for blogs, submitted about 15 articles and in short, finished 2008, businesswise, on a high.

What lies ahead
Credit for much of what we were able to accomplish in 2008 goes in large measure to amazing, giving people we've come to know who believe in us and what we're doing. We'd love to list all of them, but are afraid we'd leave someone out! So we can only say to everyone of you, thank you!

While neither of us is averse to goal setting and planning, what seems to work best for us is what might be referred to as "organic" rather than "strategic," planning. Translation: Plan, but be ready for anything.

With this in mind, we're going to lay out some of what we're thinking of working on in 2009. These are not so much goals as they are intentions, and even then, if the wind blows us another way, that's where we'll be heading. If you can stand our unconventional approach and have ideas for us, people you think we should meet or know about, or any suggestions for expanding our reach this year, we'd love to hear from you.

  • Speak or do hands-on "playshops" at green events primarily in the Northwest, at least six during the year
