Fresh Celebrate Green News, March 3, 2009

Amid the doom and gloom, celebrate hope
Despite terrible times, there almost always is something to celebrate. And in our minds, celebrating when things are gong badly is even more important than doing so when life is great. We know we're helped through the tough times by concentrating on what we have rather than what we don't. Why not turn off the news, sit down with your family and discuss all you're fortunate enough to have.

Dinner is a great time to do this. Every night during the meal, celebrate small successes you and your kids experienced during the day. Or ask one person in the family, to look around your home (permanent or temporary), and say what they appreciate. Or play this game. The first person mentions something she wants to celebrate or is grateful for that begins with "a," the next person, "b," etc. Focusing on the positives has been proven to lift moods even when it feels a little silly.

And while focusing on celebrating the little stuff isn't going to change the big, bad stuff, know that sometimes, the worst in life can bring out the best in us.

Got a pen? Got an idea? Got a mom? Design an eco-friendly, stainless steel pendant that gets the most votes and one can be yours (a pendant, that is, not a mom)

Celebrate Green! and Blend Creations are teaming up to celebrate Mother's Day by offering the opportunity for anyone to submit a drawing that could end up on one of Blend Creations' Metal for Monsters stainless steel pendants (made from recycled and recyclable materials).

Professional and amateur artists of all ages (that includes your kids!) are welcome to participate in this open call. Between March 1 and March 17, 2009, submit your artwork using this PDF template.

The template can either be digitally altered/scanned and sent to electronically at [email protected], or simply drawn on and faxed to 1.888.563.9220. Make sure to include your e-mail address on your entry!

All submissions will be posted in galleries on the Blend Creations / Metal for Monsters and Celebrate Green! websites. From March 18-April 7, anyone can vote for their favorite submission. (Be sure to invite your friends to vote too!) The artist who has submitted the most popular work of art will receive their own Make Your Own pendant with their art on it. We will also randomly choose one of the voters to receive a pendant with the same art, and both will receive a copy of the book Celebrate Green! Winners will be announced on April 8.

Here, there, everywhere

Here comes Holi, the most colorful holiday you've never celebrated

Here's a fun holiday you might never have heard of. It's the Hindu Fesitval of Colors, Holi, and it's celebrated in a very unusual way. Check out this page to see what that is.

In honor of Holi (March 13), we're joining www.MyLittlePakora.com, to offer a chance to own a darling organic t-shirt or onesie, just for answering two questions. Here's the information you need.

Happy Holi!
