Fresh Celebrate Green News September 24, 2009
And the winner is...
Do you like us and what we're trying to do to help people learn how to change the world one celebration at a time? If so, pretty please vote for us in the Greenwala story contest. It's not the $500 Amex gift card we're after, but being a part of this is a great way to get out the Celebrate Green! name.
If you've got questions, we've got answers...about greening Halloween, that is
We're excited to be part of a new-to-us format for interviewing over at EcoHuddle.
The interview is done as a forum discussion. Through next week. questions will be posted in the forum and we'll answer them. If you want to ask a question or participate with comments (which we welcome), just sign up and join us.
Help us spread the word about Green Halloween
There is so much news from Green Halloween, it's hard to know where to start. The website itself (www.GreenHalloween.org) is being updated daily with new packages of information for parents, teachers and neighborhoods.
We've added a fun marketplace as well as community pages where you can trade outgrown costumes and ask questions of the Green Halloween com-munity. Wracking your brain over what to buy for treats or treasures? You're bound to find lots of ideas you've never thought of. Be sure to check out the events page to see what's green and happening near you.
And remember to sign up for the Green Halloween news which brings you terrific, creative ideas for celebrating the greenest Halloween ever and stop by the Green Halloween blog where Corey's ideas are always fun and unique.
Oh! almost forgot. You can now find Green Halloween on Twitter and Facebook for up-to-the-minute tips, projects and news.
We'd sure appreciate it if you would spread the word about this meaningful initiative that can have such a positive impact on people and the planet. A few simple ways to help (many more on the site):
- Email friends with kids and point them to www.GreenHalloween.org
- If trick or treaters come to your home, purchase alternatives to conventional candy. If you aren't sure they'll like the alternatives, offer both this year, but have them choose ONE of either instead of handfuls.
- Ask the manager at your local grocery store to stock some healthy alternatives. They are out there, check the Green Halloween site for ideas.
- Make your kids costumes, exchange with friends or buy used.
Green bits
One of our favorite online sites, Daisy Green magazine, recently ran story about us and a drawing for a copy of Celebrate Green! According to Nicola Alexander, DG's founder, more than 650 readers entered! We were especially excited because DG is based in the UK which means exposure to a wider audience, always a great thing.
And speaking of favorite magazines and their sites, Letitia Star wrote a terrific article on celebrating a Green Halloween in Natural Home's September issue.
Finally, if you love handmade and eco-friendly, check out the article on imaginative Halloween items in our article on page 54 of the September issue of Viva La Moda, such a fun fashion mag. Ooh la la!
We've got lots of exciting media coming up. If you want to be in-the-know when it's happening, be sure to follow us on Twitter.

Last week we spoke at Sustainable Edmonds up the road from us, north of Seattle. Next up, CoolMoms on Bainbridge Island WA. Here's a list of our upcoming "playshops" and speaking gigs. If you live anywhere nearby, we'd love to meet you, so stop by!
