No cost Thanksgiving decor starts with a trip outside

We love decor that costs absolutely nothing except for a bit of time, and this time of year, we’re especially enamored of dressing up warmly, grabbing the kids and seeking out natural treasures with which to decorate our Thanksgiving table.

Here’s a quick video of Corey’s daughter “on the hunt.”

Once the items are gathered, there are endless ways to use them. Corey shared some of them this week in a segment on Northwest TV’s NWCN with Shaniqua Manning. If you watch and want more information about some of the items, check out this link on our website.

And here are the directions for making a no cost picture frame centerpiece that can sit on the table or hang like a chandelier above.

1. Choose a frame you have, but no longer use. Set it in the center of the table to ensure it isn’t too large or too small. If you plan to hang the frame, it’s best to choose one that is deeper, i.e. a shadowbox, but if it will be displayed on the tabletop, this is not necessary.

2. Flip the frame over glass side down.

3. Remove cardboard or other backing.

4. Arrange items on top of glass. Include those you’ve collected from outside as well as appropriate toys, candles, fruit and veggies etc.

5. Lift by the frame only! and place on table.

For the chandelier:

1. Remove glass from frame.

2. Screw in one eye-hook in each corner.

3. Measure distance from hook in ceiling to height from which you want chandelier to hang.

4. Cut four pieces of wire, string, ribbon or whatever you choose to the length figured in #3 plus about 6 inches.

5. Feed wire or other choice through each eye-hook, wind tightly (or tie if ribbon etc.).

6. Place frame on table and gather the four strands together, centering as best you can. If you’re using wire, create a loop and wind wire tightly to hold in place. If you’re using ribbon or string, make a loop and tie a knot below.

7. Once you hang from a hook in the ceiling, you may need to adjust a bit to ensure even hanging.

8. Replace glass, add items from nature and re-hang.

WARNING: Do not overload the glass or use lit candles!

If you make your own version of our centerpiece, send us a photo. We’d love to see.
