Oprah's Favorite Things, just greener
via Celebrate Green!
Seattle, WA November 29, 2010 Millions of people watched Oprah unveil her Ultimate Favorite Things for 2010. But one large group wish she'd made some eco-friendlier choices.
So for the greener-leaning, Lynn Colwell and Corey Colwell-Lipson, mother-daughter authors of Celebrate Green! Creating Eco-Savvy Holidays, Celebrations and Traditions for the Whole Family, offer their own take on Oprah's list.
"The fact is that for almost every item Oprah selected, there's an equally fabulous, but greener alternative," said Colwell-Lipson. "Only a few years ago, it would have been difficult or impossible to find great options for more sustainable gifts that rival the quality of Oprah's favorites. Now, it's easy."
Just a few of the alternatives Lynn and Corey suggest:
Oprah's pick: Four pairs of Nike running shoes
Lynn and Corey's greener pick: One pair of New Balance WE070 running shoes made with recycled materials, a rice rubber husk outer sole and water-based adhesives
Oprah's pick: Magaschoni tunic and leggings
Lynn and Corey's greener pick: Lizzie Parker tunic and leggings-organic bamboo is Lizzie's signature fabric
Oprah's pick: Diamond earring from Dana Rebecca Designs
Lynn and Corey's greener pick: Conflict-free diamond earrings from Brilliant Earth
Oprah's pick: Baker's Edge lasagna and brownie trays with Ghiradelli brownie mix
Lynn and Corey's greener pick: BT organic brownies made with Fair Trade chocolate
